Privacy Policy

We respect your data. This page explains what we collect when you use TrashIQ, why we collect it, and how we keep it safe.

Last updated: 10/31/2025

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy applies to the website trashiq.africa and to the TrashIQ platform used by collectors, community-based organizations (CBOs), counties, processors, manufacturers, and impact partners. Our goal is simple: turn waste data into proof of impact - without compromising the privacy of the people generating that data.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in three main ways:

  • Information you give us: such as your name, email, WhatsApp/phone, organization, or project details when you fill in a form or contact us.
  • Operational / collection data: if you use the TrashIQ platform, we may receive data like collector names, CBO/group names, routes, ward-level locations, materials/streams collected, volumes/weights, payout eligibility, and timestamps.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser, device type, pages visited, and basic analytics to help us improve stability and security of the platform.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain the TrashIQ service.
  • Attribute collection data to real people or groups (collectors, CBOs, counties) so that they can prove their environmental and social impact.
  • Generate dashboards, reports, and exports for stakeholders who have a legitimate interest.
  • Respond to inquiries, demos, or support requests you send us.
  • Improve and secure the platform, including fraud/spam prevention.
  • Comply with legal or regulatory obligations, where applicable.

4. When We Share Data

We do not sell your personal data.

We may share limited data in the following cases:

  • With your organization / CBO / county: If you submit data as a collector or group member, that data may be visible to the organization managing that program.
  • With service providers: We may use secure third parties (hosting, email, analytics, payment processors) to run the platform. They only receive what they need to perform their work, and they must protect it.
  • When required by law: If a legal authority with proper basis requests information, we may disclose it.

5. Data Retention

We keep data for as long as it is necessary for the purpose it was collected - for example, to keep historical collection records for a CBO or county program, or to comply with legal, audit, or donor-reporting timelines. When data is no longer needed, we archive, anonymize, or delete it in a secure way.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location and relationship with TrashIQ (collector, CBO admin, county staff, partner), you may have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Request deletion of data where it is no longer needed.
  • Object to certain types of processing.

To make any of these requests, contact us at hello@trashiq.africa.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards - including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and monitoring - to protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, or loss. That said, no online platform can guarantee 100% security, so we also encourage strong passwords and responsible account use.

8. Children’s Data

TrashIQ is not designed for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect platform changes, legal requirements, or new features (for example, new reporting exports). We will update the date at the top of this page when we do.
